Patients bothered by the look of sun damage or pigmentation on their skin can be good candidates for intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy at Maui Cosmetic Laser & Medical Spa. A photofacial with IPL is a skin treatment for hyperpigmentation issues on the neck and face. We send intense wavelengths of light energy to set off the natural healing process and boost collagen production. As the added nutrients take effect, you should notice a healthier appearance, a more even tone, and fewer pigmentation spots. Although IPL is a noninvasive treatment option, it can be highly effective and produce impressive results for your skin. Our Makawao, HI team employs the Alma Harmony XL PRO laser to complete IPL treatments and can offer you a skin consultation to see if this option can help you reach your skin goals.

How much does IPL cost?
Your skin is unique so your cost for IPL treatments will depend on your concerns. Maui Cosmetic Laser & Medical Spa may offer special deals from time to time, and we accept a range of payment solutions. At your first visit, your technician can help estimate your treatment pricing and discuss the number of visits needed to help you reach your goals.

How quick are the results from IPL?
Visible improvements can usually be seen following each Harmony XL PRO IPL therapy session, but the final results are apparent a month after your last treatment. It is common for patients to respond differently to each treatment. Over time, you will likely see an incremental improvement in redness, blotchiness, sun spots, and age spots.

What are the possible side effects of IPL?
Most patients have mild side effects, like temporary redness, swelling, crusting, blisters, or bruising. These symptoms naturally subside 2 – 3 days following your treatment. The treated areas will be extra sensitive to the sun, and excessive sun exposure can negatively impact your results. We also recommend using sunscreen to protect your skin and help avoid skin issues, like sun spots and redness.

Do I need to prep for IPL?
To prepare for IPL therapy, Makawao, HI patients are asked to avoid self-tanners and sun exposure for at least 2 – 4 weeks before their procedure. You might need to discontinue certain medications several days before your procedure, and we may recommend that you avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners for one week before your appointment to decrease your risk of bruising. It would help if you also protected the treated areas with sunscreen.

Why should I get multiple IPL sessions?
We recommend getting a series of IPL treatments to improve your skin's quality gradually. Every treatment helps to diminish spots and other surface irregularities. Several treatments also allow for longer-lasting aesthetic outcomes.

Dr Guzman is one of the nicest and caring physicians I have ever had. She is patient and extremely through as she takes the time to talk and understand my medical issues. Although she has a very busy practice and you can expect to wait to see her most of the time, I wouldn’t see anyone else. Dr Guzman has great training from an Ivy league University which is why I picked her as my doctor in the first place. You won’t regret going to Dr Guzman for your medical needs

Have been with Dr. Guzman for several years. You must be prepared to wait 1+ hours. Her patients tolerate this because she is a very good doctor. She is able to diagnose and recommend solutions very competently. She knows her specialists practitioners on Maui and Oahu and refers competently. She is very good with longterm, lifelong patients. If you need a doctor for short term or simple medical situations, she is not your best choice.
